Research

Esmé is a co-author on the counterfactual-rollouts paper and one of the contributors who works most carefully on the question of confidence estimation for what-if simulations. Her contributions to the riemann-44 line of work centre on how confidence estimates should propagate through long planning horizons.

She has been with alphabell since 2021 and is based in Montreal. She works closely with Mila and other Quebec-area academic groups on the question of credit assignment in long-horizon RL.

Esmé is one of the few contributors who maintains an active publication record outside of alphabell — she occasionally co-authors with her McGill former colleagues on tangential topics, which she discloses in conflict declarations.

Background

Ph.D. computer science, McGill, 2015.

Prior to alphabell: McGill; Volterra Cognition; Wayfarer Institute.
